Monday, April 20th

Application and teacher recommendations are due back to Mrs. Traci Bryant in room C106 by 3:00 pm. 

Please note: Late application packets will NOT be accepted for ANY reason.

Wednesday, April 22nd

You will be notified via email by the end of the school day whether you have successfully met the qualifications and can campaign for your chosen office position.  

Thursday, April 23rd

MANDATORY meeting in the theater at 7:00 am for ALL candidates.  Campaigning CANNOT start until AFTER this meeting.

Thursday, April 23rd - Thursday, April 30th

Campaign at school, following the campaign rules (see the following page).  Failure to follow rules and/or violation of campaign rules will result in IMMEDIATE disqualification and can result in disciplinary action.

Tuesday, April 28th

Election slide due to Mrs. Bryant.  Email slide to traci.bryant@walton.k12.ga.us.

Thursday, April 30th

Election Day!

Voting will be open from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.  Results will be announced at the end of the day, before afternoon dismissal. 

Friday, May 2nd

Campaign materials must be disposed of by the time of school dismissal.

Tuesday, May 5th

Newly elected class officers will meet with Mrs. Bryant briefly at the beginning of 1st period. Individual and group pictures will be taken (please dress accordingly).

Application Deadline

All application packets must be submitted by the deadline listed above.

Late applications will NOT be accepted for any reason.

Candidate Positions

Students must run individually (no campaign teams or “tickets”).

Students may only run for one office position.

If no candidates run for a position, that position will remain vacant.

Campaign Materials

Material guidelines:

• Students may spend no more than $25.00 of their own money on campaign materials.
• Suggested materials include buttons, flyers, posters, and signs.
• Stickers are not allowed.
• The school will not provide paper or poster materials (posters, construction paper, etc.).
• Printing can be done in the media center for a fee (see Mrs. Crowe).
• Butcher paper is not allowed.
• Campaign materials must be no larger than 22” x 28” (standard poster board).

Where materials can go:

• Allowed: hallways and common areas
• Not allowed: classrooms, teacher offices, media center, bathrooms, gyms, weight rooms, or the front office

Posting rules:

• Materials must be securely attached to walls (not ceilings).
• They cannot hang down into walkways.
• Materials must be attached so they can be removed cleanly.
• Students are responsible for removing all campaign materials after the election.
• Custodians may discard materials that will not stay attached to the wall.

Campaign Slide for Advisement

Each candidate must create one slide (PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Canva) to be shown during advisement.

The slide must include:

• Your name
• One school-appropriate picture
• Why you should be elected (ideas, goals, leadership qualities, etc.)

If you do not submit a slide by the deadline, your name will appear on a blank screen.

Campaign Expectations

Students must run a positive and respectful campaign.

All campaign materials must be school-appropriate.

Students who violate this rule will be disqualified.

It is recommended that materials be approved by Mrs. Bryant before posting.

Candidates are responsible for the actions of their campaign helpers and friends.

Actions That Will Result in Disqualification

The following are not allowed:

• Campaign promises: Giving or promising food, drinks, money, or anything else for votes
• Negative campaigning: Insulting or speaking badly about opponents
• Damaging other candidates’ materials
• Campaigning during class without the teacher's permission
• Campaigning outside your assigned lunch period or disrupting lunch

If a student is disqualified at any point during the election process, it may affect their ability to run in future elections.
