Media Center - Loganville High School

Welcome

Students are welcome to use the Media Center during their class periods, during lunch, as well as before and after school. Students can work on computers, look for books, read independently, study in small groups, and work on projects. Students are required to have a pass to the Media Center during the school day, except before and after school. Students coming into the Media Center from a class must sign in and out at the circulation desk.

Teachers may schedule class visits or send individual students with a pass. Classes may visit the Media Center as a whole group for class book checkouts and literacy lessons.

The Media Center has books, audiobooks, calculators, headphones, and ebooks available for checkout. There is no limit on the number of books a student or teacher can check out. The loan period for books is three weeks, but books can be renewed if they are not on hold for another student.

Printing is allowed for class assignments.

Students can search our library collection online using Destiny Discover on the Clever Portal page. They can also put books on hold, see new arrivals, view account information, including checkouts, holds, and outstanding fees, and much more!

Georgia Peach Book Award

Looking for a great new book? Try these! The Georgia Peach Book Award promotes reading and literacy skills in teens. Each year, a committee of school and public librarians read widely to choose a list of twenty nominated titles. Young adults then choose books from among that list to read and rate. The books that earn the highest number of readers and ratings become the Peach Book and Honor Books. You can help choose this year’s winner by reading one or more of the nominated books and casting your vote: http://www.georgiapeachaward.org

PINES Library Access for Youth (PLAY Card)

The PINES Library Access for Youth (PLAY) program gives students free access to public library materials and online resources to help them succeed in school and beyond with a digital library card. Monroe-Walton County Library, O’Kelly Memorial Library, W.H. Stanton Memorial Library, and Walnut Grove Library (all units of the Azalea Regional Library System) partnered with WCSD to provide the PLAY program to students in grades K-12 - all students in Walton County Schools.

Chromebook Information

Each student will receive a school-issued Chromebook and charger as part of the Walton County School District eSmart initiative. Parents/guardians and students can purchase the Chromebook Usage and Protection Plan (UPP), which secures a discounted repair rate for any damages to the Chromebooks. The Protection Plan also allows the students to take home the Chromebooks. The cost of the Chromebook protection plan is $10 this year.

Join the Reading Bowl Team

Do you enjoy reading? Do you like competition? If you answered yes to these questions, there is a club for you at LHS! The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl team competes against other high schools around the state in a trivia-type format based on the twenty Georgia Peach Book Award nominees. The HRRB meets on Thursdays after school in the Media Center. For more information about becoming a team member, see Mrs. Crowe in the Media Center or Mrs. Bryant in Room C206.

Each year, members read the twenty Georgia Peach Book Award Nominees to prepare for the competition season, which runs from January through March. During each round of competition, students are quizzed on their book knowledge. Moderators pose ten questions per round, and players, working in teams of five, buzz in as fast as they can to answer each question.

The Loganville High School Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl team was established in 2010. Since then, the team has earned numerous awards, including a second place title at the 2019 state tournament.

Media Center Office Aide & Chromebook Tech

Chromebook Techs: LHS Chromebook Techs have exciting opportunities to assist teachers and other students with the eSMART program—Chromebooks, computers, and other instructional technology resources—every day in the Media Center!

Media Center Office Aides: The office aides assist with various administrative tasks such as shelving books, checking out materials, and helping students and staff.

Chromebook techs and office aides are facilitated through Work Based Learning (WBL) at LHS and are considered an elective class. To qualify for the position, you must have taken at least one CTAE class and be at least 16 years old. You must have room in your schedule for an elective.
